A special Highway Code booklet has been produced by council leaders to remind mobility scooter users to pay attention to speed limits.
Herefordshire Council chiefs said they hoped the booklet, which features cartoon characters, would encourage people to stick to the rules.
Road safety officer Ann Mann said the speed limit for scooters on pavements and pathways was 4mph (6km/h).
She also urged people to know if their scooters can be used on roads.
She said classes one and two of the scooters could only be used on pavements and pathways, while class three models could also be used on roads.
‘Considerable damage’
Ms Mann said: “Any vehicle, whether it is a car, HGV, bicycle, mobility scooter or motorcycle, if not used safely and with consideration could cause considerable damage to the user or other people.”
She added that the new booklet featured the existing Highway Code rules, but presented them in an understandable and “fun” way.
In April police urged mobility scooter users in Warwickshire not to exceed the 4mph speed limit following a complaint about a scooter running into a pedestrian in Rugby.
Copies of the booklet are available from the council, Age Concern, Shopmobility, Community Voluntary Action.
