Horse sense

The facts

In 2006 a total of 123 horse riders were injured in road accidents, of which 3 riders were killed and 26 riders seriously injured.

Horses are easily scared by noise and may panic around fast-moving vehicles. As a driver, you should treat horses as a potential hazard, giving them plenty of room, passing them slowly and looking out for unexpected sudden movements.

THINK! strategy for horse riders and drivers

THINK! and the British Horse Society worked together on the ‘Horse Sense’ campaign, which advised drivers on how to avoid accidents when meeting horses on the road.
