The no claims bonus

There are hundreds of companies offering car insurance these days. Where once it was the preserve of specialist firms, nowadays almost everyone has an insurance branch. Supermarkets have even got in on the action.

It can be quite confusing figuring out where to begin. My advice would be to check the internet. All of the biggest names on the high street can now be found online. For example, many local repair centres have now made the shift online and are able to offer excellent prices on car insurance quotes.

However, people are still really rather naïve as to how to save money. There is plenty of conflicting advice, but really there is only one sure fire way to pay less money; protect your no claims bonus.

So what can you do to avoid making a claim on your insurance? Well, for starters, you need to ensure that you don’t have a driving accident that is your own fault. In fact, when it comes to car insurance you need to be very careful not to have an accident that isn’t your fault. Remember it is less of a no claims bonus than a ‘no accident’ bonus. An accident, no matter who is to blame looks bad to your insurers. Don’t have them! Things you can do are courses like defensive driving skills, or advance learning courses which can all help protect you and your no claims bonus.

You also need to take care not to have to claim on your insurance for theft, fire, malicious damage or anything else if you can possibly avoid it. There are of course limits to how far you can go, but basic security steps will minimise the chances of you having to claim on your insurance for any of these reasons.

Basically, be sensible. The safer you drive and the better you look after your car the better your chances are of keeping your bonus. Of course some things are beyond your control, but if you are lucky then this will help you save a great deal of money.
